‘Giving Back’
Giving Back is a 2 year programme funded by Comic Relief. The project has been actively involved with the recruitment of 50 Community Champions who are older women aged 65+. The project provides training, mentoring and support to empower the community champions to set up and lead social action groups with a focus on wellbeing activities. Community Champions offer their experience, skills and knowledge that can be shared and to benefit their communities to respond to some of the social problems which our community faces: low levels of community cohesion, high levels of obesity, lifestyle related illnesses, e.g. parenting/family issues, domestic abuse, radicalization and extremism.
The Community Champions and social action groups will provide individuals the chance to be active, be more involved, and feel valued and also enjoy greater levels of empowerment, make new friends and reduce their social isolation and improve their health and wellbeing.
