MYSPACE.

MYSPACE supports women from South Asian communities with additional needs on Wednesdays & Thursdays 10:30 AM – 3 PM at WomenZone.

Project workers will co-produce plan of activities, empowering them and their carers to consider the different ways they want to be supported to be active and independent. Volunteers will ensure individuals are progressing well and activities will be adapted where required.

All of the sessions will be designed to enable individuals to be healthier, more active, more independent and most importantly more socially connected. They will be delivered in group settings so that individuals can form friendships and develop social interaction/life skills which they can draw on in order to improve their experience in and outside of the project.

Some of the sessions include:

  • Life skills sessions – cooking, travel training, visits to parks, museums and local attractions
  • Wellbeing – mindfulness, yoga, tai chi
  • Exercise – soft chair exercises
  • Learning and hobbies – gardening, art, crafts

Service users will benefit from the following outcomes:

  • Improved independence
  • Increased choice and control over activities
  • Reduced isolation and loneliness
  • Improved physical and mental wellbeing
  • Improved quality of life

Case study

“I have been participating in the engaging sessions offered by MySpace at WomenZone for several months, and I find immense joy in being a member of this community”.

“Every week, our group looks into various activities including arts and crafts, baking, jewellery making, physical exercises, and more, enabling me to explore my creativity and engage in enjoyable tasks.

Through these interactive sessions, I have been able to make new connections and friendships, which have significantly enhanced my involvement with MySpace and have empowered me to feel more self-assured in my day-to-day life.

I look forward to each session for not only the fun and engaging activities they provide but also for the safe environment that fosters a sense of belonging, allowing me to relax and do things I enjoy”.
